Why June is the new January in PR

One of the reasons our PR team loves June so much is because it marks the start of our slower season, and with it comes a much-needed breath of fresh air. It gives us space to pause and reset, tucked between the rush of Q1 and just before the buzz of fall begins. We like to think of June as a new and improved January, without the pressure of resolutions.

Throughout the year, certain tasks tend to get pushed to the bottom of our to-do list. They may not be urgent, but it’s important to get them done. This is why we value the quieter pace of June. It allows us room to revisit what’s been delayed and set ourselves up for a strong second half of the year.
Here’s how we use the season to reset:
Reorganizing
One of the most productive (and satisfying) tasks we focus on over the summer is getting organized on the back-end side of things. This can be anything from cleaning up client folders, archiving any completed tasks and making sure press kits and messaging documents reflect the latest updates. It’s also a perfect time to refresh bios, both for our clients and ourselves.
Research
With more time on our hands, we like to dig into trends and media research. This may include getting ahead on strategy for fall and holiday pitching, researching relevant coverage that fall in our clients niches and updating our media lists by pulling new contacts both locally and nationally.
Reflecting
Summer gives us a chance to revisit the bigger picture. We can take a step back and review which angles have resonated with the media so far this year and which haven’t. It’s important to evaluate which angles we’ve been using that have been landing us media coverage, and what is still sitting in journalists' inboxes unopened.
Recharging
Finally, we believe that creativity thrives when there is room to breathe. Summer is a great time to recharge, step away from the screen and find inspiration in the everyday. Some of our most creative ideas come not from staring at a screen, but from a conversation, experience or just having some time to clear our minds.
